The Spaghetti Dinner
By Gabby Coons
Father Jim was back in the kitchen again for this year’s Spaghetti Dinner, making his special pasta sauce. This year many helped to make this memorable dinner happen. The youth groups T.U.F. (Teens United in Faith) and F.I.R.E. (Faith Ignites Real Energy) helped serve to the families that were sorted. As always there is much cleaning to be done and they help with that as well. The volunteers who worked in the kitchen, ensured that the meals were made. As usual they did an amazing job with the meals. Robert Lee, one of the T.U.F. teens that helped with the dinner said, “My favorite part was being able to wait tables and see the smiles and peoples’ faces during the dinner; it felt humbling.” This dinner is one of the biggest events here at St. Thomas More, which brings the community of our parish together. After going to the dinner, you always walk away knowing at least one new person.
The delicious meal included pasta with Father Jim’s special sauce, meatballs, and Italian sausage with sautéed peppers and onions. A warm roll and a side-salad, then finishing off with a soft snickerdoodle cookie. This was the 13th year of the dinner and it just keeps getting bigger and better with over 300 people in attendance this year.
The evolution of the pasta dinner:
2005: 1st spaghetti dinner
2006 – 2008: Format changed to international dinner
2009 – 2015: Return of Pasta dinner
2016 – present: Name change to Pastor’s Pasta dinner
2005 -2008: Dinners held at neighboring parish halls since ours was not built.
2009: STM hall complete
If you weren’t able come out this year, I hope to see you next year!April 11, 2018
