Our First Twenty Years at St. Thomas More
by Jan Barrett
Our month long 20th anniversary celebration at Saint Thomas More was very touching and faith filled.
Who could’ve guessed that a song would be commissioned to celebrate this anniversary? A big thank you to Steve Raml, who started this project and saw it through, and certainly to Rory Cooney who actually wrote the song, “This House That Love Has Made”. The words of the song capture the mission of faith and love of the St Thomas More parishioners.
During this month of celebration Father Jim referred to the parishioners as ‘living stones’. “As you come to him, the living stone rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him, you also, as living stones, are built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ”. (1-Peter 2:4-5”) We are so blessed to have Fr Jim, who has been on this journey with us for twenty years.
The culmination of this celebration was a carnival on October 29, 2017. In keeping with our volunteer spirit, the members of TUF (Teens United In Faith) manned all sorts of chores and games to ensure the merry making. Even those who were working seemed to be having a good time.
No one could have asked for better weather. Our beautiful courtyard provided shade and lots of tables and seating. Games and rides filled the west side which is where the kids spent most of their time. So many things to jump on and climb.
Thanks so much to the adult volunteers in the kitchen for their pork pulling efforts; the sandwiches were really tasty and moist. Drinks and chips completed each lunch.
Thanks also to those who manned the beer garden, replenished the food to keep up with the crowd, the cotton candy machine staff and all those who did the set ups and take downs. And to our youth groups, you guys rock!
What a wonderful Parish community we have. God bless ‘This House That Love Has Made’.December 31, 2017
