My name is Fr. Larry Weidner and I look forward to leading this year’s Lenten Parish Mission. The theme of this year’s mission is A Reflection on the Virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love.
At all the Masses this weekend I will preach on the Virtue of Love. Monday morning and evening, the Virtue of Faith. I will present this virtue in the context of looking at Communal Faith. We will look at Why be Catholic? Why folks leave the Catholic Church? And, why folks stay? We will also look at how to minister to those who have left the church. And secondly, we will reflect on one’s personal faith and spirituality. How do we live out our Catholic Faith?
On Tuesday morning and evening, we will reflect on the Virtue of Hope. I will reflect with you in the context of looking at the difference between secular hope (being lucky) and spiritual hope (being assured). We will reflect on how we are called to be spiritually hope-full or hope-filled people during difficult and challenging times.
Wednesday evening, you are invited to join us for our Lenten Penance Service. A wonderful opportunity to experience Jesus’ love through forgiveness.
I want to acknowledge that I know that you all have busy lives and that your time is valuable. I don’t want to waste it. Having said that, it is easy, because of the business of our lives, to keep pushing our spiritual life aside for later. The season of Lent is a wonderful time of the year that the church gives us to dedicate a little extra time to our faith life. To be renewed in God’s love for us and to recommit ourselves to be true followers of Jesus Christ. To let God love us so we can better love others.
Please, prayerfully consider joining us for this year’s parish mission.
In His name and love, Fr. Larry
